It's impossible to know with 100% certainty if we're going to have a good or bad winter. I wish we had that capability, though, then I would know that I need to get out of town for a little while! Just kidding... kind of.

Anyway, there are some ways that nature can be giving us signs that a bad winter could be on the way. One of these signs goes all the way back to something that happened in the summer!

Farmer's Almanac Prediction for Minnesota's 2026 Winter

The Farmer's Almanac came out with their winter predictions in early August. Their prediction consisted of...

  • Fast-moving clippers and squalls (sudden bursts of heavy snow and blustery winds)
  • Sudden cold snaps
  • Slick travel

In other words, it sounds like this winter, at least according to the Farmer's Almanac, will be a little crazy. But does Mother Nature agree?

The Farmer's Almanac also has different ways that nature can predict a bad winter is coming. If my memory serves me right, I think two of the predictors have happened or are currently happening... uh oh. However, there's at least one that doesn't seem to be happening.

Maybe even Mother Nature is undecided on how this winter will go! Let's go through these and see what we think.
