New Concept Art Reveals First Look at ‘Black Widow’ Villain
Now that the solo Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson is finally officially announced — weeks after the movie started shooting! — Marvel can finally start teasing the film in earnest. The film, directed by Cate Shortland, also stars David Harbour as the Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, and Rachel Weisz as Melina.
So who’s the movie’s villain? Well, knowing Marvel, there could be several. But for sure one of them is Taskmaster, who isn’t listed above, but is featured prominently in the film. As part of the Comic-Con rollout of the first details of Black Widow, Marvel showed off this piece of concept art by Andy Park from Black Widow that shows Johansson’s character locked in battle with the Taskmaster:
While Taskmaster has had a few costumes through the years, this is pretty faithful to his classic look, right down to the cool shield (which he uses to mimic Captain America’s fighting moves, since he has the ability to copy anyone he fights and use their own techniques against them). He doesn’t have Taskmaster’s cape which is kind of shame, cause it’s always hilarious when any incredibly tough fighter walks around with a very dramatic cape flowing behind him.
Still, Taskmaster is one of the all-time coolest Marvel bad guys, and it’s great he’s getting the big-screen treatment. Black Widow opens in theaters on May 1, 2020.
