For the 12th straight year, Carrie Underwood will sing the opening theme song for Sunday Night Football on NBC. The country veteran has performed "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" each year since 2013 when she received the torch from fellow country artist Faith Hill.

"It’s a road show like no other!" SNF announced in a joint post with Underwood and the network. "Carrie Underwood stars in her 12th consecutive show open for Sunday Night Football beginning September 8 on NBC and Peacock."

What is the Sunday Night Football Theme Song?

Since the 1980s several musical theme songs have been used to create a unique game-watching experience for NBC viewers at home. This is not unique to the network as others have their own themes however, NBC elected to created a pre-game experience similar to that used on Monday nights on ABC with Hank Williams Jr.

They enlisted pop singer Pink to sing an NFL version of Joan Jett's 1988 hit "I Hate Myself for Loving You." This new version was titled "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" and Pink recorded the song and a video, which was used during the 2006 season. In 2007, Faith Hill took over the role and became the pre-broadcast entertainment for six seasons before Underwood came in.

Carrie Underwood's Sunday Night Football Theme Songs

Underwood has taken some creative liberties in her time as the show's opener. She created a football-friendly version of one of her own songs, taking "Something Bad" featuring Miranda Lambert and turning it into "Oh Sunday Night."

The singer-songwriter also created her own original song titled "Game On" but has returned to the fan-favorite in recent seasons. Underwood even invited Jett to join her for the opening video in 2019 — the NFL's 100th anniversary.

Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, owned a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 2-half-bathroom home in an affluent Nashville suburb called Brentwood. The 7,000-square-foot mansion features a wet bar, fitness center and tennis court, as well as a four-car garage, walk-out basement with heated marble floors and extra appliances, including a sub-zero fridge and wine fridge. That house is where Underwood suffered a devastating fall in 2017.

The couple sold the luxurious home for $1,410,000 in March of 2019, after they moved into the massive dream home that they had spent several years building from scratch.
