Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Southwest Rochester home was heavily damaged by a fire Saturday afternoon.

The Rochester Fire Department says firefighters responded to a residence at 108 18th Avenue Southwest shortly before 5 PM Saturday and found the upper floor of the one and a half floor home was engulfed in flames. Ground ladders were used to extinguish the main fire through the windows and it was brought under control within about 10 minutes.

All of the occupants of the home had escaped the fire but the Rochester Fire Department was informed that a cat may have been inside. After most of the fire was backed down, firefighters entered the building and were able to rescue the cat, which was treated using a pet rescue oxygen mask.

A news release says the occupants of the home were likely alerted to the fire by smoke detectors. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the overall loss has yet to be determined.
