Grand Meadow, MN (KROC-AM News) - A tire blowout caused a motorcycle crash near Grand Meadow over the weekend that left the driver with severe injuries.

The State Patrol says 47-year-old Tanar Haala of Fairfax was driving west on Highway 16 around 6:30 Saturday evening when the rear tire blew on his motorcycle. He and his passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle.

They were not wearing helmets and the State Patrol says Haala was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His passenger, 32-year-old Rachel Kuphal of Pipestone, was also transported to the hospital, but her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
