Driver Killed, Passenger Severely Burned in Olmsted County Motorcycle Crash
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fiery motorcycle crash that left a Kellogg man dead and a Millville woman severely burned.
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Lt. Lee Rossman says deputies responded to the report of a motorcycle in the north ditch on 75th St. Northwest east of the Village of Genoa shortly after noon on Sunday. Responding deputies said the male driver appeared to be deceased at the scene.
Passing motorists told deputies the motorcycle was lying on top of a female passenger and appeared to be smoking from a fire. The motorists said they extinguished the fire with water bottles and pulled the motorcycle off the woman.
The driver was identified as 33-year-old Kurtis Zomok. The female passenger, identified as 37-year-old Cassandra Carter of Millville, was transported from the scene by Mayo Clinic Ambulance before being moved to Regions in Hospital in St. Paul for treatment of her burns. She was described to be in critical condition.
Rossman says investigators do not yet know how the motorcycle left the roadway. He says skid marks at the scene show the motorcycle was traveling east then appeared to have skidded into the westbound lane as it came to a curve. Rossman said Zomok may have laid the motorcycle down and struck a sign. Zomok and Carter were not wearing helmets, Rossman said.
