E-Cigarettes Are Disappearing From Walmart Shelves in Rochester
You might still be able to find some on the shelves at Walmarts in Rochester, but e-cigarettes are set to disappear soon.
Outside of a celebratory cigar when the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl in 2011 and 1997, I've never been a smoker. I've also never chewed tobacco or vaped anything from an e-cigarette, either, so this news doesn't really affect me. (Now, I'll have a beer pretty much at the drop of a hat, so no judging here...)
But those e-cigarettes are set to disappear from stores shelves at both Walmarts here in Rochester. That's because Walmart said last week that starting next month, the retail giant would no longer sell e-cigarettes or pretty much anything to do with them.
According to this CNN story, Walmart said it's getting out of the e-cigarette and vaping industry because of a "regulatory flux." If you're not exactly sure what that means (I know I'm not), the story went on to explain Walmart's decision like this:
"Given the growing federal, state and local regulatory complexity and uncertainty regarding e-cigarettes, we plan to discontinue the sale of electronic nicotine delivery products at all Walmart and Sam's Club US locations," the company said in a statement according to the story. "We will complete our exit after selling through current inventory."
So while you might still see a few e-cigs on the shelf if you head to Walmart North or South here in Minnesota's Med City yet this week, when they're gone, they're gone. You can read the entire story HERE.
