The Skally Line Band (All Ages Concert)
February 22, 7:30 PM
Olde Pine Theatre

The Skally Line steams south to make our debut in Pine Island. This here is special for Fred as he grew up north of Byron, just about 6 or 7 miles from Pine Island. We plan to have a rollicking good time of stories, music, singing, and stomping; some new ones, some old ones, and some weird ones too.

Named after the old passenger line that ran from Swede Hollow up to the Twin Ports, The Skally Line plays knee-slapping, foot-stomping country music: Old-time, string band blues, Appalachian ballads and fiddle tunes, a touch of swing, and plenty of originals.

We dig deep into the quirky corners of Minnesota history and rural stories and we write our own songs. From the voyageurs to the Metis to the logging camps to moonshine stills, you’re going to leave a Skally Line humming a tune and appreciating a little more about the folks who lived here in years past and who made this land what it is.

Fred Keller plays mandolins. He started out playing Irish music back in the ‘90’s, moved to bluegrass in the early 2000’s and has been picking old American music ever since. He started or played with The Banshees, Catskinner, and The Whistlepigs String Band. The main historian of the group, Fred pokes around in dusty corners of Minnesota looking for odd stories to write into music. He lives in Sandstone, MN.

Mike Chew, originally from Virginia, makes his home in Minneapolis. He plays guitar and banjo. In fact he is also a well-respected banjo builder whose instruments can be found all over the US. You can see his work here: https://www.facebook.com/dogwoodbanjos/. Mike is a wonderful songwriter as well.

Eric Paulson, bass, is also the bass player for The Roe Family Singers. He plays with The Skally Line whenever he can. Though primarily anchoring the rhythm and low sound spectrum, Eric can also play banjo, fiddle, spoons, and probably everything else. His sideline is pipe making--the tobacco kind.
