Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Hennepin County judge today granted a prosecution request to set bail for Emmanuel Aranda at $2 million.

The 24-year-old Minneapolis man was formally arraigned this afternoon on a first-degree attempted murder charge for tossing a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony in the Mall of America last Friday. The charge was filed against Aranda on Monday and the criminal complaint states he had gone to the shopping center intending to kill someone. He also confessed to investigators and acknowledged he knew his actions were wrong.

His young victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. The child’s story has been front-page news across the entire country and a Go Fund Me webpage established to help pay his mounting medical bills has brought over $700,000.

Aranda is due back in court the morning of May 15th for an evidentiary hearing.
