Flooding Possible Later This Week in Wabasha Area

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Parts of southeast Minnesota received between half an inch and an inch of rain on Saturday and that has led to another rise in streams, creeks, and rivers.

While most will slowly recede this week, the Mississippi River will gradually rise and likely cause minor flooding problems in some areas.

The Wabasha area may be impacted the most by the rising water.

The National Weather Service is projecting the Mississippi River in the Wabasha area will reach flood stage either Monday or Tuesday and possibly rise two more feet by the end of the week. That would put the area in the lower end of the moderate flood stage.

Wabasha experienced prolonged flooding last spring and the river had a peak crest of 15 1/2 feet on April 2nd. The NWS on Sunday projected the river will rise to 13.8 feet by Saturday or Sunday.

Here is what the Wabasha area will face this week if the projection holds:

13.5 Water begins to go over highway 60. Flooding also impacts the lower level of slippery's restaurant.
13 The railroad underpass on Highway 60 may be flooded. Flooding is also possible along Lawrence Boulevard and Main Street East. Some businesses near the river may be flooded.
12.5 Flooding occurs in the field west of the grocery store on Hiawatha Drive.
12 The river affects low lying areas.
