Mario Kart, first released 30-years ago in 1992, is one of the most popular video games in history. People of all ages and skill levels enjoy the go-kart racing game. Over the last three decades Nintendo has released 14 different versions of the game and sold more than 150 million copies of it.
4th Annual Crushing Koopas and Childhood Cancer Mario Kart Tournament
The annual video game tournament is hosted by the Herber family and is a fundraiser to help families with children that have "complex medical illnesses."
Their son, Nathan Herber, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a few years ago, right after his 4th birthday. The child immediately began a two-and-a-half-year treatment plan. Mario and Luigi were along for the ride and helped Nathan escape reality during those difficult treatments.
The family's goal with this event is to raise funds for organizations that can help other families that are facing similar situations.
Last year's tournament raised $25,000.
This year's event is scheduled for September 10th from 1:00 pm - 10:00pm.
