The Last GameStop in Rochester Announces They’re Closing
I saw a sad announcement on the Rochester, MN Reddit page yesterday. The last GameStop in Rochester (by Target North) is going to be closing soon. We used to have three in town, and pretty soon, there will be zero.
Unfortunately, lots of businesses have closed over the past year. Businesses do come and go, but I feel like this past year has been especially brutal with the economy and everything.
But GameStop has been around for forever! And while you may assume the reason they're closing is that business is down, that may not actually be the case here.

When is GameStop in Rochester, MN Closing
GameStop sent out an email to their customers announcing that they'll be closing on Monday, January 15th, 2026.
However, some information from a Reddit user piqued my interest.

Why is GameStop in Rochester, MN Closing
A comment on the Reddit thread mentioned that the person went into GameStop to chat with the owner and see what was going on. According to this Reddit user, the owner said they were being forced out by their landlord.
Allegedly, the landlord decided not to renew the lease with GameStop and will be leasing the place to someone else. Yikes... that seems like a scummy thing to do.
But there might be some good news!
GameStop Might Not Be Gone from Rochester, MN Forever
The owner also said that they're hoping to lease or buy a spot in Rochester so they can reopen!
However, they still need to deal with shutting down this location, clearing things out, and then hunting for another spot, so the same Reddit user mentioned it may take at least 2 months before another GameStop may open in town.
