We learned of a really sad announcement yesterday. After nearly 20 years, Goonie's Comedy Club in Rochester, Minnesota has announced it won't be opening this fall.

The news was shared on Goonie's website and Facebook last night. In the announcement, the owners said, "This is not the way we wanted to go out as we were entering our 20th year".

Why Goonie's in Rochester, MN is Closing

The announcement cites rising costs as the reason for closing their doors. The owners, Mark & Jasmine Klampe, said that they were "unable to agree to terms with [their] landlord" and that "rising costs are no joke."

Rising costs are hurting these local businesses, which is really sad. These kinds of places are what make every town unique, so to see places like Goonie's and other local spots have to close due to increased costs is disheartening.

Goonie's Comedy Club has Closed in Rochester, MN

You may be thinking, 'Why don't they just increase the price of tickets? Then they could afford the costs.' Mark and Jasmine say that they have always wanted to keep Goonie's an affordable place.

"We've always done our best to provide quality entertainment at an affordable price and we are no longer able to do that."

So many people on Facebook have shared how saddened they are by the news and are reminiscing about the time they've spent at Goonie's over the years.

Mark and Jasmine end their announcement with: "It's been an honor to be a comedy staple in Southeastern MN for as long as we have. Please keep supporting live comedy! It will always be the best medicine." Absolutely, couldn't have said it better myself.
