Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester area continues to experience a major moisture deficit, but some areas of southern Minnesota saw their deficits largely erased by Saturday's storms.

It appears the heaviest rain fell in south-central Minnesota and in the far southeast corner of the state. The National Weather Service is reporting almost 3 inches of rain at La Crescent, 2.7 inches in Preston, and almost 2.4 inches in Lanesboro.

To the west and northwest of Rochester, estimates put the rainfall totals at around 4-inches in an area between Mankato and Waterville. The same estimates also show around 4 inches of rain fell in the Faribault and Northfield areas.

The National Weather Service is indicating only 3-tenths of an inch of rain fell at the Rochester Airport, while some other parts of the city saw around a half-inch of rain on Saturday and only 2-tenths was recorded at the Mayo One helipad on top of St. Marys Hospital.

As of today, just under 1.2 inches of rain has fallen at the Rochester Airport this month. That leaves us with a monthly moisture deficit of over 3.5 inches and a shortfall of 6.65 inches for the year. Forecasters are predicting a fairly good chance of rain in the Rochester area tomorrow and Tuesday, while dry and warm conditions are currently forecast for the start of the Independence Day Holiday Weekend.
