Here’s How This Winter Compares to Last Winter So Far
I'm going to be honest, this winter doesn't seem to be as bad as last winter (knock on wood). I sure hope I didn't just jinx us. Our friends over at Bring Me the News took a look at the numbers to figure out how this winter is comparing to last winter so far. Turns out, we may be in for a worse winter snow-wise than the last two winters.
This time last year and the year before we hadn't seen this much snow yet. So far this winter we've gotten 32.8 inches. This time last year we had only seen 17.5 inches and the 2017-18 winter at this time we had seen 25.2 inches. (Side note, these snow totals are all recorded at MSP Airport.)
Now here's the scary thing, both the winter of 2017-18 and 2018-19 saw major snow totals by the end of the winter. The winter of 2017-18 saw a total of 78.3 inches of snow. The winter of 2018-19 saw 77.1 inches. So if we keep getting the snow we've been getting so far this winter, we will probably see more than 78.3 inches of snow this winter. Great. And here I thought we were having a good winter.
