Over the weekend, I saw a bunch of people posting a warning on Facebook about how leaving hand sanitizer in your vehicle could start a fire. The National Fire Protection Association, a global self-funded nonprofit, devoted to eliminating death, injury, property, and economic loss due to fire, electrical & related hazards, says you don't have to worry about that. They explain why in the video below:

The heat can cause your hand sanitizer to lose its potency though. So if you're leaving it in your vehicle for extended periods of time it won't be as effective at killing germs. LiveScience says this is because the alcohol in it evaporates easily. They recommend storing your bottle at room temperature, and say if you do that, "you're likely to have an effective product for as long you need it."
