Historic Church in Wisconsin Dells Turned into an Award-Winning Restaurant
There's a restaurant in Wisconsin Dells that you'd probably drive right by if you weren't looking for it or aren't familiar with the area. That's because it looks like a church. This historic building once was a church (and before that it was a schoolhouse) but it's now home to an award-winning restaurant that you won't want to miss out on! The place is called Brat House Grill.
Back in 1850, the building was constructed as the Delton Academy, a one-room Baptist Boys School House, according to the Brat House website. Then in 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church. They added some rooms, put in stained glass windows, and added a bell tower. The building was a church for a long time but then a new one was built elsewhere in town in the '70s and they vacated this one.
Jump to 2007 and the building was turned into the restaurant that's still running today, the Brat House Grill! I've never been but I guess this place has incredible brats and sausages. They won the 2020 Travelers' Choice award from Tripadvisor. They also won Wisconsin's Official Best Brats award in 2018. In 2018 and 2019 they got #1 at the Flavored Nation Festival. They've also been ranked #1 from USA Today Readers Choice and #1 form Only in Your State. So yeah, I think these are good brats!
It seems like you really can't go wrong with any of their menu items though. On top of their brats, they also have insane burgers, homemade soups, sandwiches, and traditional German fare.
Speaking of renovated churches, there's a different church also in Wisconsin that was turned into an incredible home! Check it out below.
