Nearly 200 lbs. of Illegal Cannabis Was Discovered in Minnesota Stores Last Year

What Cannabis is Legal in Minnesota
It's legal to have cannabis flower in your home (up to 2 lbs.) and on your person in public (up to 2 oz.) but it can't be legally sold in stores yet. The only way to legally get cannabis flower in Minnesota right now is by growing it at home or buying it from a dispensary at a reservation.
Stores, at the moment, are allowed to sell edibles with up to 5 milligrams of THC per serving. This could be in a drink form, gummy form, etc. But they hope that will change soon.

Even though it's not legal, there were stores across the state who still attempted to sell cannabis flower to customers. However, Minnesota officers were out and about checking in on stores to make sure they were following the rules.
It turns out that there were quite a few who were not.
Hundreds of Pounds of Illegal Cannabis Destroyed in Minnesota
MPR reports that between January 2024 and October 2024, a little over 199 lbs. of illicit cannabis flower was found in stores across Minnesota. They say that amount is worth about $607,000.
The stores then had to destroy the flower but four stores were also fined $10,000 each "in civil penalties."
The state is still working on getting their ducks in a row and getting licenses out to businesses. Businesses can apply for a license and the deadline is January 30th. They're hoping the general licensing lottery will take place in May or June.
