Iowa’s Own Caitlin Clark Named Time’s Athlete Of The Year
She's really the queen of Iowa.
It's safe to say Iowans take pride in Caitlin Clark. She's a powerhouse and brought women's basketball back into the spotlight.
Now, Time has named her their 2024 Athlete of the Year.
We've all known the West Des Moines native was a queen and she's broken dozens of records and garnered acclaim on many levels. I mean, just look at her stats from her rookie WNBA year alone:
Her success has proved to many young basketball players, both boys and girls, that these accomplishments can be done. In the interview with Time, she discusses the Angel Reese controversy, and said her and Reese are "very respectful of one another" and that "this controversy that was really fabricated and made up, and then that has continued to be the case ever since". She also talked on the snub for the Olympics basketball team, saying that it "woke a monster" for her.
As for what's next, Caitlin told Time:
Personally, I'm just scratching the surface of what I can do and hopefully how I can change the world and impact people,” she says. “There's also been so many people that are not involved in women's sports, that are just in the workforce, or whatever they do, and they're just like, ‘Thank you for what you do for women.’ I've heard that a million times.
But it's true. Attendance at Indiana Fever games this season (and at Iowa Hawkeyes games when she played) spiked by a huge amount. In fact, the WNBA set an all-time record this year on viewership, getting over 54 million unique viewers in their regular season.
We love our Iowa basketball girl!
