I love Target. What's not to love? Carthweel, personalized coupons, recently a Target pickup line and now this! It's Earth Day and Target is teaming up with Waste Management for it's Car Seat Trade-In campaign. In honor of Earth Day on April 22, Target will accept your old car seats in exchange for a 20 percent discount on a new car seat, booster seat, car seat base, or travel system.

MOM SECRET: Save another 5% with a Target Red Debit Card and if you don't have a seat to recycle, check those Buy/Sell sites. Expired car seats should never be sold since they expire after 6 years but they are often given away.

Yes, car seats typically expire after six years from the date of manufacture. A sticker that provides the serial number includes manufacture and expiration dates.

This trade-in program, which is in collaboration with Target's partner Waste Management, will help to recycle old seats to create new products like grocery carts, plastic buckets, and construction materials (such as steel beams and carpet padding). Head to our one of our two local Target location's Guest Services counter between April 22 and May 5.

  • 5 years they've been doing this program
  • They've recycled more than 176,000 car seats
  • Saved 2.6 million pounds of materials out of landfills
