Summer is the time when kids typically get signed up to take swim lessons. It's really smart to get your kids used to water at an early age and know how to at least do some basic strokes in the water so they're safe when they're at the pool or lake.

I remember always hating my swim lessons, and I have never been a great swimmer, but I'm still really glad I at least know the basics, so I know if I end up in a bad situation, I'll know what to do. In that case, it doesn't matter if I can swim fast or not.

Searches for Swim Lessons Are Up

Not surprisingly, searches for swim lessons have increased recently in Minnesota and across the US. One specific kind of swim lesson that has spiked in search trends that caught my eye, however, is called ISR swim lessons.

What the heck is that?

I'm not a parent, so I thought maybe I was just unaware because of that. However, I asked co-workers who do have kids and they weren't sure what it was either.

What Are ISR Swim Lessons?

ISR stands for Infant Swim Resource. ISR is all about teaching young kids how to be safe in and around water and helping them gain confidence.

You know those videos of babies that are in the water on their stomachs and they have to flip themselves over to float on their backs? That's the kind of thing that happens at these ISR classes.

On the ISR website, they mention that classes are always one-on-one and customized to the child.

Where to Find ISR Swim Lessons

Swim instructors have to become ISR certified in order to officially teach ISR classes, and it appears there are only a few in Minnesota.

Even though official ISR lessons may be few and far between in regards to availability, there are plenty of swim schools around the state that offer swim lessons to young kids.

What I'm taking away from learning about ISR swim classes is that the most important thing is building your child's confidence in and around water from a young age, and you can do that at any swim class as long as it's the right fit for them.
