The docks are all pulled in. The waters been turned off, and hopefully you have all the food cleared out of the cabin. It's a bittersweet end to the season in Minnesota & Wisconsin.

A popular method over the years has been laying out dryer sheets to deter mice. The theory behind it is that mice don't like the smell of dryer sheets, so they will avoid the space. Does this actually work?

It is true that mice don't like the smell of dryer sheets. However, that smell wears off in about 3-4 weeks. After that, mice won't have a problem with it. In fact, I've found mice droppings on dryer sheets I've left out.

It may work for a short period of time, but alone it isn't enough to deter them.

Try to find where they are getting in and block the section. Set out traps to get the mice before they start causing damage. Make sure you clear out any food or crumbs in your pantry.

Other products like Grandpa Gus's mice repellent pouches and sprays may work better, but they still aren't a 100% guarantee you won't get mice in your cabin.
