It's been a very interesting March! While we have seen a few minor storms throughout the month, we never got that one massive winter snowstorm in the Northland like we usually do.

This is the time of the year when spring is always in the air but we can't get too comfortable because you just never know in our neck of the woods.

Regardless of what could happen, I always look at the Old Farmer's Almanac to see what they are predicting.

Of course, you have to take their predictions with a grain of salt. Some believe in their methodology and others don't. I look just for fun!

Say It Ain't Snow!

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, we aren't in the clear from winter just yet. They are predicting snow throughout the month. Sigh.

We will see snow, according to their predictions, right off the bat with a rain of mix and snow. From April 10th through the 15th, we will see a period of sunshine but more snow returns and lingers for a few days.

There's Good News Though!

We will round out the month with sunshine. That likely means spring is near and we will be over winter once and for all. However, you just never know in the Northland.

One thing is pretty much certain: we have a lot left to deal with in March! The Northland is expecting rain, snow and ice with a pretty nasty storm system set to move in later this week and this weekend.

The 16 Least Snowy Winters On Record In Duluth History

Since the National Weather Service began keeping weather records in Duluth in the late 1800s, here are the 16 winters with the lowest snowfall totals on historical record.

It is worth noting that the official records from 1941-today have been recorded at the area now known as the Duluth International Airport (away from the lake, on top of the hill). Before then, various locations closer to Lake Superior had been used for official weather recording data. For anyone that knows anything about how Lake Superior and the hill play a role in temperature and snow, you can see how this makes older records inherently different.

While these records note the "least snowy winters", they actually include all seasonal snowfall from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.
