There are so many scams going around these days that you are probably rolling your eyes whenever you hear about a new one. I do the same!

Sometimes, I get a text or an email that is so blatantly a scam that it's almost offensive. Other times it can be hard to tell as scammers become more advanced.

When it comes to scams involving things like bills or taxes, I feel like it's way easier to get swept up in them. Because those things can be a bit confusing, they seem easier to fall for.

Plus, if you get a document or letter from what appears to be the IRS, you panic! Now, a scam just like this has been reported in Minnesota.

This Minnesotan said they got a fake invoice related to a permit. The scammer actually had a convincing email that appeared legitimate, legal language and even appropriate letterhead. They put in work to make it appear convincing and it almost worked. There was even a forged signature.

The scammer used a free domain to craft the email to make it seem legitimate - and it does, ending in USA.COM. There was a PDF that had payment instructions for the permit. Obviously, this was a way for them to get banking information out of the victim.

As always, do not pay anything over the internet if you have any questions whatsoever about this. The email from the scammer also said 'no calls' which is another red flag to look out for. When in doubt, delete the email. If it's legitimate, they will find another way to get in touch with you!
