Hollywood-Style Chase Across Northern Minnesota Ends in Arrest
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Department is sharing the story of an insane, Hollywood style chase, that happened across several jurisdictions yesterday in Northern Minnesota.
Just before 1 PM yesterday, June 20th, a Chevy Silverado Pickup traveling on Highway 37, crossed the center line and almost hit a St. Louis County Investigator and near forced the squad car off the road.

The Investigator conducted a traffic stop on the car that headed westbound and then took a northbound turn onto Highway 169 at the Hibbing roundabout. Initially, the driver stopped, but when it was discovered that the driver had active warrants and was being arrested, he refused to get out of the vehicle and took off at a high rate of speed.
The driver continued on Northbound Highway 169 driving erratically at high speeds, squad cars were in pursuit until it became too dangerous within the city of Hibbing to continue, so the pursuit was terminated, and the suspect fled towards Chisholm.
Not long after the pursuit was called off, calls began to come into 911 about a driver traveling at high speeds and driving, you guessed it, erratically. The vehicle was entering a construction zone between Chisholm and Mountain Iron while running cars off the road and nailing construction barrels, it nearly struck a crew of construction workers near Buhl.
Officers again tried to stop the suspect due to the increased danger to the public, stop-sticks were used near Mountain Iron to slow the vehicle, but it continued cruising along striking barrels, at one point a barrel was sent flying through the air and landed on the hood of a squad car, breaking the windshield and slightly injuring the officer driving.
The driver eventually came to a stop after entering a median just west of Walmart on Highway 169 and hit a crossover, which disabled the vehicle and officers from Hibbing Police, Chisholm Police, Virginia Police, and the Minnesota State Patrol made the arrest.
The suspect, identified as Kaleb Clark Sandy (DOB 07/13/1999), was taken into custody, transported to Essentia Health Virginia for a health check, and then lodged at the St. Louis County Jail in Virginia. He is awaiting charges of fleeing in a motor vehicle, 2nd degree assault, reckless driving, damage to property, and DWI.
