Robbinsdale, MN (KROC-AM News) - Twin Cities authorities say a crash involving a freight train that seriously injured two people this morning was captured on video recorded by the dash cam on a State Patrol vehicle.

A statement issued by the Robbinsdale Police Department indicates the collision occurred around 9:20 AM in the Minneapolis suburb. Officials say the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad train smashed into the front seat passenger area of the SUV before pushing the smaller vehicle down the tracks about 130 yards before stopping.

The two occupants of the SUV were trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Robbinsdale Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. The two women, ages 69 and 88, are both from Robbinsdale.

They were transported to North Memorial Hospital by ambulance. As of Monday afternoon, the 69-year-old driver was listed in serious and stable condition, while her passenger was described as being in serious but not stable condition.

Robbinsdale Police say a preliminary investigation found that the warning lights and warning bells at the crossing were operational when the crash occurred. They note the crossing is not equipped with stop arms.

The crash remains under investigation.
