Another Day – Another Record Afternoon High in Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the second time this week, Rochester area residents and visitors enjoyed record-setting warmth.

The National Weather Service says the unofficial high temperature this afternoon at the Rochester Airport was 51-degrees. That exceeded the previous record for January 31st that was set in 1989 at 48-degrees.

It was even warmer in downtown Rochester. A National Weather Service weather station on the helipad at St. Marys Hospital showed the air temperature rose to 55-degrees for several hours in the late afternoon. High temperature readings in the low to mid-50s were common throughout the region.

Rochester also set a record high temperature on Monday when it reached 46-degrees. The old record of 44-degrees was set in 1944.

Modestly cooler weather is on the way, but it will remain much warmer than normal. The forecast through next Wednesday mainly calls for highs in the mid-40s.

Another Dense Fog Advisory will be in effect tonight and through most of Thursday morning. The advisory for southeastern Minnesota takes effect at 9 PM and runs until 11 AM tomorrow. Dense fog advisories have been posted across most of southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, and western Wisconsin.

Forecasters say motorists should expect visibility to drop to a quarter mile or less. They also caution there could be some light icing due to freezing fog in some areas.
