Former Mayo Physician Loses Bid to Dismiss Murder Indictment
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former Mayo Clinic physician accused of murdering his wife has lost another appeal.
Defense Challenged Grand Jury Indictment
The Minnesota Court of Appeals has denied a petition filed by the defense team for 33-year-old Connor Bowman that sought to overturn a recent decision by an Olmsted County judge in the three-year-old murder case. The judge had refused a request to throw out a grand jury indictment charging Bowman with first- and second-degree murder.

Accused of Poisoning His Wife
Bowman is accused of the poisoning death of 32-year-old Dr. Betty Bowman in August 2023. The criminal complaint alleges that he gave her a lethal dose of a medication used to treat gout.

Judge Previously Found No Prejudice From Misconduct
Last December, Bowman's defense attorneys filed motions seeking to dismiss the first-degree murder indictment, claiming the state committed prosecutorial misconduct while presenting the case to the grand jury. In her ruling, the presiding judge acknowledged that prosecutorial misconduct had occurred but determined Bowman "suffered no prejudice and there was no effect on any of the defendant's substantial rights."

Minnesota Court of Appeals Rejects Bowman's Petition
In its decision denying discretionary review of the judge's ruling, the Minnesota Court of Appeals found that Bowman failed to demonstrate "extraordinary circumstances" that would warrant such a review. The ruling notes that Bowman will have the opportunity to challenge the grand jury indictment in any appeal if he is convicted of the charges.
Bowman remains in custody in the Olmsted County jail with bail set at $2 million.
