Captured: Statewide Alert for Minnesota Robbery Suspect Canceled
Ashby, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities say the suspect in a robbery at a Minnesota gas station has been captured.
On Saturday the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) canceled a statewide alert that was issued for the robbery suspect on Friday afternoon.
The alleged robbery occurred at a Casey’s General Store in the small town of Hoffman, which is about 25 miles west of Alexandria in western Minnesota's Grant County on Thursday afternoon.
A news release issued by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office says deputies from that agency as well as the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect and his vehicle shortly before 3 p.m. on Saturday.
He was arrested during a traffic stop in the small town of Ashby, which is just under 30 miles north of Hoffman. The suspect’s name has not been released.
Law enforcement says the suspect entered the gas station and asked the clerk for dollar bills in exchange for change.
He reached to grab the cash tray when the clerk opened the till and forcibly took money from the tray despite the clerk’s attempts to stop him, authorities say. The man then left the store on foot before getting into the car he was driving.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says the robbery is still under investigation. The amount of money taken from the store has not been disclosed.
