Defendant in Major Rochester Drug Cases Forfeits $1 Million Bail

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man charged in connection with a major drug trafficking investigation in the Rochester area has now forfeited the bond the money he used to post $1 million in bail.

46-year-old Jon Michael Ask missed another hearing in Olmsted County Court today, which led the judge in the case to immediately forfeit his $1 million bail. An arrest warrant was issued for Ask about a week ago after he skipped a previous court hearing and the judge revoked and forfeited the $100,000 in bail he had posted in a different drug case.

Ask faces three first-degree drug charges stemming from an investigation into fentanyl trafficking in the Rochester area. According to court documents, the investigation resulted in a traffic stop on I-35 in July that led to the seizure of fentanyl-laced pills, quantities of cocaine and marijuana, and around 80 rounds of ammunition.

That led to the execution of search warrants at homes in both Northwest and Southeast Rochester. The criminal complaints against Ask indicate that more than 7 pounds of fentanyl-laced M30 pills were found in one of the residences.

Following his arrest in that case, Ask was released on $100,000 bail.

Court records say Rochester police conducted surveillance on Ask after his release and that led to another traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of 48 grams of crack cocaine. Police then obtained search warrants for his home and another vehicle that led to the discovery of 137 grams of cocaine, 88 grams of a substance that tested positive for fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, along with lesser quantities of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and ecstasy.

That's when his bail was set at $1 million.
