
Expired Tabs Lead to Search and Drug Discovery During Rochester Traffic Stop
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Preston man is facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop in Rochester.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Friday. The traffic stop occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday on 7th St. Northwest.
A Rochester police officer stationed at a northwest Rochester gas station saw a man carrying a small box and backpack and a woman get out of a vehicle they were in and enter another vehicle. The two then left the store and the officer followed their vehicle.

The officer saw the vehicle had expired registration and observed multiple traffic violations, the complaint says.
Police arrested 36-year-old Adam Kyle Thompson after identifying him as the passenger and learning he had an active arrest warrant.
A subsequent search of Thompson incident to his arrest led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine in Thompson’s pants, the complaint says. During a search of the vehicle, police found the box and backpack Thompson was seen with.
The backpack was holding a bag containing 322.8 grams of suspected marijuana flower. Law enforcement found small plastic bags, a digital scale and tinfoil in the box, the charges say.
The suspected meth found in Thompson’s pants was measured to be 39.2 grams. 15 of the grams were separated into five different baggies and the rest was together in one bag, according to the court document.
Police also found 1.3 grams of suspected fentanyl on the tinfoil seized during the traffic stop and search, the charges say. Court records indicate Thompson was convicted in a first-degree drug case that was opened in Olmsted County in 2016.
Thompson is charged with first-degree drug sales, second-degree drug possession and fifth-degree drug possession. He’s scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday morning.
