Early-Morning Fire Torches Historic Minnesota Lodge
Lutsen, MN (KROC-AM News)- A historic lodge that has provided Minnesota vacationers with memories for decades is gone.
The building was taken by a fire that broke out shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
A news release issued by Cook County says dispatch was notified of a fire alarm at the Historic Lutsen Lodge around 12:24 a.m.
Staff has reported seeing smoke coming from the floor in the lobby area. Responding fire crews reported the building was fully engulfed in flames.
There were not any guests staying at the lodge when the fire started and no injuries have been reported. Eight fire departments fought the blaze at the historic resort, according to the Cook County news release.
A post on the Historic Lutsen Lodge’s Facebook page Tuesday morning said the building is a total loss. The post also included a promise to rebuild.
The Historic Lutsen Lodge has been taken by a devastating fire this evening…. A total loss to the lodge building…. Fires in 1949, 1951 and 2024. The amazing memories made here are in our hearts as we begin the heavy weighted process to rebuilt back better.

The cause of the destructive fire has not been released. The Minnesota State Fire Marshall is investigating the fire.
