Hartland, MN (KROC-AM News)- A young Minnesota man lost his life in a head-on crash with a construction truck on a rural southern Minnesota highway early Thursday morning.

He was driving a car. The State Patrol responded to the fatal crash shortly after 3:30 a.m. 

The car and truck collided on Hwy. 13 near the intersection with Freeborn County Rd. 35, which is about 15 miles north of Albert Lea

The truck was traveling south on Hwy. 13 and the car was northbound on the two-lane highway when they collided, the state crash report says.

26-Year-Old Driver Killed in Crash With Construction Truck in Freeborn County

Authorities say the driver who lost his life was a 26-year-old man from Hartland, MN. His name and more information surrounding his death have not been released. 

80-year-old Dwight Craig Kleinschrodt was identified as the truck driver. He suffered what the crash report describes as non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in nearby Albert Lea for further care.

Kleinschrodt was buckled up and not under the influence of alcohol, the State Patrol says. 

The Waseca County Sheriff’s Office, New Richland Police Department, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, New Richland Fire Department, Hartland Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the deadly crash.
