That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Thursday.

Rochester Police responded to the alleged robbery shortly after 7:40 on Wednesday morning.

Man Convicted of Felony Assault, Firearm Possession Charged in Rochester Robbery

The complaint says police were dispatched to a robbery report at an unnamed business along North Broadway Ave. in Rochester.

The victim told officers he parked to wait for someone to administer his motorcycle endorsement test when three males approached him in the parking lot.

He said one of the males took his jacket and gloves that he had set down on the motorcycle’s seat and began walking away, the charges say.

The man said he asked one of the males to return the jack and told officers the male turned around, asked him if he wanted to die and put his hand in his sweatshirt pocket and/or waistband. The victim believed the alleged robber had a gun, the complaint says.

The suspect threw down the victim’s wallet and left the area, the charges say. Officers responding to the robbery report were notified that city cameras captured the suspect and two other males walking north on Broadway.

Police found the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Eugene Kay Anthony Washington Jr., and eventually got him on the ground, according to the complaint.

Washington Jr. had a hammer in his waistband and a knife in the right pocket of a jacket he was wearing. The charges say Washington Jr. also had items the motorcyclist had previously reported stolen, the court filing says.

Court records indicate Washington Jr. was sentenced to five years probation in March for a third-degree assault conviction that stemmed from an attack on a fellow patient at St. Mary’s Hospital in February of 2023 and for possession of a sawed off shotgun in a separate case that was opened in May of 2023.

The Rochester man was charged Thursday with felony counts of aggravated first-degree robbery and terroristic threats. Washington Jr.’s bail was set at $100,000 without conditions. He’s due back in court next month.
