First Alliance Credit Union Reopens Northeast Rochester Branch After Major Rebuild

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -- A Rochester financial institution with deep roots in the community officially reopened one of its branches Monday morning after a lengthy rebuild.

First Alliance Credit Union held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, March 16, to celebrate the reopening of its Northeast Rochester branch on 37th Street. The facility had been closed since October 2023 after severe water damage forced the credit union to shut down the building.

FACU Branch Closed After Structural Damage

The original building sustained significant water damage to its foundation, raising structural concerns that led First Alliance leadership to temporarily close the branch to protect staff and members.

The damage was significant enough that the credit union ultimately chose to demolish and rebuild the facility.

During demolition, the structure ended up serving an unexpected purpose.

The Rochester Fire Department used the building for live training exercises, providing firefighters with hands-on training before the building was removed.

A Meaningful Connection To First Alliance’s Roots

That training also carried symbolic meaning for the credit union.

First Alliance Credit Union was founded in 1932 by Rochester firefighters and a teacher, and the training exercises conducted during demolition reflected the organization’s early connection to the Rochester fire service community.

A newly constructed building now stands in place of the original structure, allowing the credit union to once again serve members in Northeast Rochester.

“This reopening represents resilience and our continued commitment to the Northeast Rochester community,” said Brent Rempe, President & CEO of First Alliance Credit Union. “While the closure was unexpected, the opportunity to rebuild has allowed us to create a refreshed space where we can continue helping our members achieve financial success.”
