The case began as a medical call in May of last year, during which Rochester police found a man unconscious in a running pick-up in a large commercial parking lot in the 3700 block of North Broadway.
Officers woke the man and arrested him on suspicion of impaired driving. Police identified the motorist as 25-year-old Jack Ryan Farrell, who the complaint says overdosed prior to the May 2024 incident.
Officers searched the vehicle after finding Farrell with two dollar bills with a white powder residue and a fentanyl pill, the complaint says.
The search led to the discovery of a baggie containing nearly 550 full and partial pills that tested positive for fentanyl and $326 in cash, according to the court document.
During a subsequent interview with police, Farrell claimed the fentanyl was for his personal use, however he also described himself as a "middleman" in the drug trade and indicated he was waiting in the parking lot to meet a friend, the charges say.
He was charged with first-degree drug sales and first-degree drug possession.

In March, Farrell entered a plea deal in which he admitted to the drug possession charge in exchange for the dismissal of the drug sales count and the charges contained in a separate criminal complaint.
He was then released from custody to enter a drug treatment program, court records indicate.
Farrell returned to Olmsted County Court for his sentencing hearing on Wednesday. He was sentenced to 65 months in prison and credited for 235 days spent behind bars.
