The shooting occurred on Tuesday night and the suspect was apprehended about 24 hours later. He was seen with a gun a little over 13hours after the shooting, authorities say.
Mower County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dave Pike said deputies were dispatched to the reports of shots fired in the area of North Everett St. in Le Roy shortly before 10:45 Tuesday night.
Pike says responding deputies found evidence a shooting had taken place. No one was injured and no property appeared to have been hit by the gunfire.
Around 12:15 Wednesday afternoon, Pike said deputies responded to the K&H Classic Stop in Le Roy on the report of a 31-year-old man who was intoxicated with a firearm holstered on his hip.
Deputies learned the man was a local rural resident and began looking from him and his vehicle at his address and in the community but could not find him, Pike said.
The Mower County Sheriff’s Office then passed along the information they had to the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa then reported finding the suspect’s crashed vehicle around 4:25 Wednesday afternoon. A post on the agency’s Facebook page says a suspect had fled but was taken into custody.
Pike says Mower County was made aware of the suspect’s apprehension shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The investigation indicates Wednesday’s incidents in Le Roy and northern Iowa are related to the shooting reported on Tuesday night, according to Pike. The suspect’s name has not been released.
