32-year-old Margot Lewis is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 35-year-old Liaria Tsai of Minneapolis.
The criminal complaint, filed in Hennepin County Court in June, says the Iowa woman was seen on video leaving Tsai’s apartment in Minneapolis on the morning of the crash at the I-90/Hwy. 42 interchange in Olmsted County.
First responders found the body, later identified as Tsai, in the back of the crashed vehicle.
The criminal complaint in the case says law enforcement officers discovered a bloody scene at Tsai’s apartment during a search conducted in late June after the body discovery.
Investigators also learned the two women were previously in a relationship and that Lewis had flown to Minneapolis from Boston the day before the murder, the complaint says.
In September the Hennepin County Judge presiding over the case ordered Lewis to undergo a psychological evaluation.
On Wednesday Lewis was found competent to face the charges against her. The next court date for the murder case has been set for October 21.
In Olmsted County Lewis is charged with interference with a dead body. The local case remains on hold while the Hennepin County murder case continues.
