Olmsted County Administrator is Resigning to Accept New Position

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County is need of a new administrator.

It was announced this afternoon that Heidi Welsh, who has worked at the county for the past 11 years and has served as county administrator since 2017, has accepted the position of County Manager in Dakota County. Her resignation will become effective at the end of the month.

"We deeply appreciate the leadership and vision that Heidi brought to Olmsted County,” stated Olmsted County Board Chair Sheila Kiscaden. “Her skillful management and leadership have laid a strong foundation for Olmsted County to continue delivering innovative solutions to improve residents' quality of life."

A news release announcing Welsch's upcoming departure lists a number of her major accomplishments while serving as Olmsted County Administrator, including leading the County through the COVID-19 pandemic and helping to secure state and federal funding for a number of major projects. Those projects include the upcoming Highway 14 and 60th Avenue interchange, a new materials recovery facility and an exhibition center at Graham Park.

It also indicates the job opening will be posted within the next two weeks for both internal and external candidates. Applications will be accepted for 30 days. A selection committee will then be formed to choose 5-7 candidates for interviews before a top candidate is selected.

The Olmsted County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to appoint an interim County administrator at its meeting on July 16.
