Psych Eval Ordered For Woman Charged in Eyota Dead Body Case
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A judge in Hennepin County has ordered a psychological evaluation for the Iowa woman who was charged with murder after a traffic crash near Eyota earlier this year that led to the discovery of a body in her vehicle.
The judge issued the order during an evidentiary hearing Wednesday afternoon in the case of 32-year-old Margot Lewis. She is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 35-year-old Liaria Tsai.
The criminal complaint in the case says law enforcement officers discovered a bloody scene at the victim's Minneapolis apartment during a search conducted in late June after Tsai's body was found in the back of Lewis's crashed vehicle. The court document also indicated that a knife was missing from the home and that an autopsy determined the victim died from multiple sharp-force injuries.
The charges against Lewis also say that video recorded by a security camera outside of the victims apartment shows a woman, who appears to be Lewis, driving Tsai's vehicle just two hours before the crash occurred on I-90. The criminal complaint also states that investigators learned the two women were previously in a relationship and that Lewis had flown to Minneapolis from Boston the day before the murder.
Lewis is currently scheduled to return to Hennepin County Court on October 1 for another hearing. She is currently jailed with her bail set at $1.5 million.
Lewis also faces a charge of interference with a dead body in Olmsted County Court. That case is on hold while the murder case in Hennepin County proceeds.
