Rochester City Council Approves Golf Funding Increase
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester City Council approved a motion Monday to increase the funding streaming into the city’s golf program.
Council members signed onto a set of recommendations passed by the Rochester Park Board last year that calls for providing the golf courses with an additional $500,000 each year. $100,000 would be directed at the cost of annual operations for all four courses, with $400,000 allocated for capital improvement projects at the four golf courses.
$250,000 of that amount would come from the city's tax levy and higher fees charged to golfers would cover the other half. The levy request and fee schedule will occur annually and be overseen by the park board beginning in 2024.
The city’s website lists a single adult membership for the 2023 season at $995, which is an increase from last year’s membership that ranged from $795-$954. The plan also suspends the early-bird special offer that allowed golfers to purchase a membership at the city’s four golf courses for the upcoming season at the previous season’s rate. Discounted rates for low-income residents and the city's First Tee program will still be in place.
Some of the capital projects listed in the plan include a new clubhouse at Eastwood Golf Course and paving the entry road into Northern Hills Golf Course. The plan passed the council on a 4-3 vote.
