Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man with a previous conviction for felony assault has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and felony drug possession.

Felony Assault Convict Accused of Illegal Firearm Possession

Olmsted County court documents indicate 22-year-old Jamaul Lorenzo Earthman is accused of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, fifth-degree drug possession, and a gross misdemeanor offense of possessing an open package of cannabis in a motor vehicle. He was arraigned on the charges on Friday, and his conditional bail was set at $25,000.

Search of Rochester Home Uncovers Drugs and Handgun

According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Southeast Minnesota Violent Crimes Enforcement Team executed search warrants for Earthman, his vehicle, and his northwest Rochester residence on Tuesday. The court document says the searches led to the discovery of a handgun with a loaded extended magazine and no visible serial number, 13.7 grams of suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms, and two ecstasy pills.

A working digital scale with a white residue that field-tested positive for cocaine, along with various empty plastic baggies, was also found during the execution of the search warrants.

Previous Felony and

Due to his previous second-degree assault conviction, Earthman is prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition. He was convicted of the felony assault charge in 2024 and was given a stayed prison sentence. Court records indicate he was accused of pointing a handgun at a group of people during a confrontation at a Rochester residence.

Earthman also has a previous conviction for gross misdemeanor fourth-degree assault involving a police officer. He was accused of striking an officer on the hand after police responded to a report of a fight at a Rochester apartment complex three years ago.
