Rochester Police Investigate Rash of ATM Burglaries
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Police Department is reporting a string of early morning burglaries targeting ATMs at local businesses.
Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says the ATMs have been tampered with, broken into, or even stolen in six instances dating back to early March. The first was reported March 5 at Whistle Binkies on the Lake in Southeast Rochester.
The following week, a break-in occurred at the Zen Fusion restaurant in northwest Rochester and another incident was reported March 31 at Chip Shots along North Broadway. Rochester police also responded to Alerus Bank in northwest Rochester on April 11, Whistle Binkies North last Tuesday and the nearby Purple Goat Restaurant last Thursday.
Grayson says, in some instances, the thief or thieves were able to obtain access to the cash inside the ATMs. She says Rochester investigators are also aware of other similar burglaries in nearby communities.
