St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Court of Appeals has shot down an appeal filed by a man who was sent to prison last year for a sex trafficking conviction in Rochester.

Twenty-eight-year-old Larry Eddie Konah entered into a plea agreement and admitted to a felony charge of receiving profits from prostitution. He was originally charged in 2023 with engaging in sex trafficking, profiting from prostitution, promoting prostitution, and soliciting an individual for prostitution.

According to court records, a woman told law enforcement that she had been pushed into working as a prostitute in the Rochester area. She told investigators that she met Konah through Instagram in October 2022 and that he told her she could be a model.

The criminal complaint against Konah says the woman alleged that he eventually became aggressive with her, forcibly took her cell phone, and used it to set up an account on an app that was used to schedule appointments with an escort service. Konah was accused of using the app to schedule appointments for the woman to have sex with customers.

She told investigators the "appointments" occurred several times per week and sometimes multiple times per day at an apartment complex in Rochester.

Konah was given a 10-year prison sentence for his conviction, although he was credited for more than 500 days already spent in jail and was allowed to serve the prison term concurrently with a 41-month prison sentence for a previous prostitution-related conviction. According to the Minnesota Department of Corrections website, Konah's current anticipated release date is in September 2029.

In his appeal, Konah unsuccessfully argued that the district court abused its discretion by denying his request for a downward departure from sentencing guidelines. In a ruling issued today, the Minnesota Court of Appeals determined the judge handled his sentencing properly and upheld the 10-year sentence.
