Southwest Rochester Home Significantly Damaged in Fire

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A fire caused significant damage to a home in southwest Rochester.

That’s according to the Rochester Fire Department which responded to the blaze shortly after 7:30 Wednesday evening. 

Responding firefighters found smoke and flames coming from an attached, rear garage and eaves of the home.

Garage Fire Spreads at Home in Southwest Rochester

The fire broke out in the 3000 block of Sherburn Pl SW. 

Crews fought the fire from the rear of the home and from above the home using an aerial ladder truck when the flames began spreading to the roof above the home’s garage. 

Firefighters also searched the interior of the house and found no one inside. 

Due to the large amount of water deployed during the firefight, crews used salvage tarps to cover valuable items inside of the home. 

Firefight Amid Warm Evening

Firefighters eventually extinguished the flames and turned the scene over to the Rochester Fire Marshals Division for investigation. 

Multiple Mayo Clinic Ambulance crews were at the scene to monitor the health of firefighters, who were dealing with hot weather while fighting the fire. 

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is not available. The home suffered “significant smoke and fire damage,” according to the fire department. 

The Rochester Police Department, Minnesota Energy and Salt & Light Chaplains also responded to the house fire.
