Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The woman arrested by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a sex assault investigation is now facing felony charges.

A criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court Friday, has revealed new details in the case. 

The court document says law enforcement first learned of the sex assault allegations on September 16. The victim in the case is a teenage girl.

Charges: 42-Year-Old St. Charles Woman Sexually Assaulted Eyota Teenager Three Times

42-year-old Megan Lelani Cogswell is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The complaint says Cogswell moved into the victim’s Eyota home in 2023. Investigators confirmed three different incidents in which Cogswell sexually assaulted the victim, the charges say.

The girl was 15 years old at the time of the alleged sexual assaults. Cogswell was also suspected of providing the victim alcohol, the complaint says.

During an interview with investigators, Cogswell denied sexually assaulting the victim, the complaint says. 

The St. Charles woman spoke with investigators on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office announced Cogswell’s arrest. 

Cogswell was released without bail following her first appearance in Olmsted County Court on Friday morning. She's due back in court next month.
