Wisconsin Man Sentenced to Probation for Drug-Induced Sex Assault of Vulnerable Adult in Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Wisconsin man has been sentenced for in a Rochester sexual assault case involving a vulnerable adult and drug use.

The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court in August of 2022, says the sex assault occurred in December of 2021. 

The man charged in the case entered a plea agreement In January of last year.

Wisconsin Man Given Chance to Avoid Prison for Drug-Induced Sexual Assault of Vulnerable Woman

60-year-old Harold David Short was charged with third-degree and fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct and use of drugs to injure or facilitate crime. 

The criminal complaint says he picked the woman up from an adult care group home in Burnsville, took her to St. Paul then to Stillwater before heading to a residence in southwest Rochester. 

The victim told Rochester police Short forcibly injected her with methamphetamine then made her perform a sexual act on him while they were at the Rochester residence, the charges say.

The court document says Short and the victim then went to a fast food restaurant in Rochester before spending the night at a cabin in Alma, WI. Short then dropped the victim off at the Southeast Regional Crisis Center the next morning. 

She said Short did not allow her to leave while they were together.

Short admitted to the fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in exchange for the dismissal of the two other counts in the case, according to the plea deal. 

On Wednesday he was given a four-year stayed prison sentence. Short has also been required to register as a predatory offender.
