My family has vacationed in Wisconsin since I was a child.  There are some towns that seem way older than they are.  Almost like they lean into the idea of nostalgia as a marketing tool.

I'm looking at you Wisconsin Dells with your "old-timey photo shops".

But have you ever wondered what the oldest town in Wisconsin actually is?

Early History of Wisconsin

Early Wisconsin history can be traced back to Native Americans who have inhabited Wisconsin for thousands of years. This includes the Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi tribes.

French traders established fur trade posts throughout the state, which led to an increase in European influence.

Wisconsin officially became a state in 1848 but the oldest city has been around since the early 1600s,

Wisconsin's Oldest City

They named it "Baye des Puants" after the Winnebago tribe that lived in the area. The oldest extant house in Wisconsin, the Roi-Porlier-Tank Cottage, is also located in the town.

Determining the exact date of this town is a challenge due to the long occupation of the area by Native American tribes. However, the city claims to be one of the oldest European settlements in the United States, dating back to 1765 when the first permanent settlers arrived.

Green Bay is the Oldest City in Wisconsin

The construction of the first public building in Green Bay happened in 1824 and the establishment of a post office in 1835.

By the time Wisconsin became a territory in 1836, Green Bay had already established itself as a significant center of commerce and industry.

Today, Green Bay is a thriving modern city with a population of over 100,000. It is perhaps best known for its football team, the Green Bay Packers.

DIY McRib

Everyone is rejoicing that the McRib is back! You can hear the chanting from down the block. Everyone is washing their hands a little bit more due to the bbq sauce residue and it's wonderful.

All is right with the world.

But it isn't always like this. The McRib will leave soon and we'll have to settle for a McChicken or a Double Quarter Pounder like a peasant. Life isn't fair. We know this.

However, my cousin Steve has figured out a way to beat the system.

He's gotten his hands dirty and experimented so we don't have to. He has perfected the DIY McRib!
