Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Dangerously cold conditions are expected to hit the Rochester area later this week.

That’s according to the National Weather Service, which is predicting the upcoming arctic blast to be the coldest of the Winter so far. 

Wind chills are expected to plunge well below zero, leading to an increased risk of frostbite. No warnings or advisories have been issued as of Tuesday morning. 

National Weather Service: Rochester to See Dangerous Cold Thursday Night Through Saturday Morning

The National Weather Service says the dangerous cold is predicted to arrive by Thursday night with forecasted wind chills as cold as -24 in Rochester.

Forecasters say the coldest wind chills are expected to hit Friday morning and Saturday morning. 

Friday morning could see wind chills as cold as -35 by Friday morning. On Saturday morning, the windchill is predicted to plummet as low as -28. Exact wind chills could fluctuate over the next few days, however forecasters are anticipating bitter cold air. 

The forecasted low for Thursday night is -19. Friday’s forecasted high is -10 and the low is predicted to plunge to -20 Friday night, according to the National Weather Service’s forecast. 

Frostbite on exposed skin can occur in as little as 10 minutes, the National Weather Service says. Officials are advising anyone going outside to dress in layers and to bring pets indoors. 

The National Weather Service is asking anyone with outdoor plans to evaluate and possibly postpone their activities.
