Coleraine, MN (KROC-AM News)- A motorcyclist suffered severe injuries after crashing with a school bus in northern Minnesota Wednesday.

The State Patrol indicates a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene. Emergency personnel responded to the crash shortly after 2:15 p.m.

Northern Minnesota Motorcyclist Airlifted to Duluth Hospital Following Crash With School Bus

The school bus-motorcycle crash occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 169 and Morrison Ave. in the small town of Coleraine, which is just under seven miles northeast of Grand Rapids.

The motorcyclist was traveling north on Hwy. 169 when a southbound school bus seeking Morrison Ave. made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, according to the state crash report

44-year-old Damian John Heinkel of Bovey, MN was identified as the motorcycle operator. 

He was airlifted to a hospital in Duluth with life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol says he was not wearing a helmet. 

69-year-old Gerald Arnold Runston was driving the bust. The Bovey man escaped the crash without injuries, the State Patrol says.

Alcohol was not involved in the crash. The state crash report does not say if any students were on board the bus at the time of the collision.
